Meet Amanda S.
What was life like before bariatric surgery?
I was a mom in my mid thirties that could not keep up with my young kids. I could not walk to the park or get down onto the floor easily. I was tired often. I’m diabetic and was on large amounts of insulin. I had bad eating habits that unfortunately my kids were picking up as well. I didn’t want to go on big family vacations for fear of not being able to enjoy it like I should. I wasn’t comfortable being exposed at pools or even in front of my husband.
If you put off the decision to come in for a long time, why was that? What kept you from booking a consultation?
I had considered it off and on for several years. My dad had told me a horror story of his friend who had had surgery 20+ years ago and had complications and the cost was also a concern. I switched to an insurance plan that was willing to help me cover it and I had decided I was more scared of leaving my kids without their mom than I was of the procedure.
What was it like to work with the team from the start of your journey to today?
The team was amazing from start to finish. The process was easy and the prep stage went surprisingly fast. Dr. Bleu was a pleasure to work with and put my mind at ease right away. Piper and Chelsea were so kind and helpful and made it all so easy. The fact that we prayed before my surgery and then Dr. Bleu prayed with my husband in the waiting area really meant a lot as well.
Life now is amazing and continues to get better everyday. I had zero complications and recovery was 1,000x easier than any other surgery I’ve had. I can do the things I want to do now without worrying if “I fit” or if I can make it. My kids are so grateful that we can go and do whatever we want without fear! I’m not afraid to live. I could get on an airplane now no problem. I could get on a ride with my kids and not be worried that the restraint won’t click. I love shopping for clothes now. My life is forever changed for the better.
I could get on an airplane now no problem.
