Meet Al F.

What was life like before bariatric surgery?
I weighed 329 lbs and was recovering from a bad case of Covid. I was isolated in the hospital for 5 days and on oxygen. 3 months after I was released from the hospital and finally off oxygen, I made the decision to get my life back. I visited with Dr. Brabahm, my heart doctor, and told him I had to do something to lose weight. He referred me to PWLC. I had a telephone consultation with Dr Blue and started the process. I was lifeless, no energy and had lost the will to do anything. I’ve guided hunts for 25 years and was no longer physically able to do anything that I loved to.

If you put off the decision to come in for a long time, why was that? What kept you from booking a consultation?
No time at all. It came as a result of Dr Brabahm. I was mentally ready to lose weight but past experience told me I couldn’t do it on my own anymore. I had to have some help.

What was it like to work with the team from the start of your journey to today?
The PWLC team was great. Loved everyone involved in the process. The Psychological evaluation was the most interesting to me. Would love to know what they learned from it.

What is your life like now? What’s the #1 thing you love being able to do now?
The energy that I have after losing 120 lbs is through the roof. I’m 69 years old and have guiding hunts the last 2 years post surgery. I have rebuilt the barbed wire fence around our place and am enjoying being able to work again. I have my life back and I’m enjoying kids, grandkids and great grandkids.
