Meet Enedina P.

What was life like before bariatric surgery?
Before surgery I had become accustomed to life being overweight. I did not realize how miserable I was being tired all the time, the heartburn, sleep apnea, and general hardship of carrying so much extra weight. It was hard to keep up with my three girls, let alone actually play with them.

If you put off the decision to come in for a long time, why was that? What kept you from booking a consultation?
I had looked into surgery about 5 years prior but was encouraged to use medication and did not feel heard at the office where I previously lived. Last summer my biggest and most comfortable pair of shorts were tight and it took me 2 tries to get off the couch. That was it. I looked up bariatric surgery and decided it was time for a consultation and reached out to PWLS for help.

What was it like to work with the team from the start of your journey to today?
My first interaction was wonderful, incredibly responsive and helpful to making sure I was making the right decision. Dr. Schneiderjan was incredibly knowledgeable and all of the nurses and NPs have been excellent from start to finish. I have to say I’m most impressed with my follow up care. Surgery can be very scary and recovery can be daunting, but I never doubted for a second that Piper would make time for me and listen to my concerns as she guided me through the first 6 weeks. Since then I have felt very comfortable reaching out for continued follow up and am thankful to have not been another number.

What is your life like now? What’s the #1 thing you love being able to do now?
I did not realize how poorly I felt every day. I feel like so much has changed with respect to my ability to function day to day. I have more energy and moving is much easier. I’m sleeping better than I ever have before and my general outlook on life is much more positive. I don’t plan my day around food, but rather let food fuel me to function throughout the day.
