Meet Steven P.
What was life like before bariatric surgery?
Before undergoing bariatric surgery, life was challenging. Following high school, I began gaining weight due to my underactive thyroid, and I reached my heaviest weight at 384 pounds. My size made everyday activities, like riding roller coasters, impossible to enjoy. As a deputy sheriff, wearing my gear and vest made it difficult to fit in my patrol car. Additionally, my weight contributed to high blood pressure and made intimacy with my wife more difficult.
If you put off the decision to come in for a long time, why was that? What kept you from booking a consultation?
I contemplated having surgery a few months before taking the first steps. The primary factor that delayed my decision was witnessing a friend’s successful experience with it. He introduced the idea to me, prompting extensive research on weight loss surgery. After conducting thorough research, I determined that initiating the process was a worthwhile decision.
What was it like to work with the team from the start of your journey to today?
Working with the team has been incredible. Every team member has shown genuine kindness and willingness to address any questions or provide guidance. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to guide me through the surgery process and the subsequent follow-up care.
What is your life like now? What’s the #1 thing you love being able to do now?
Since undergoing the surgery, my life has significantly improved, both physically and emotionally. I’ve been able to discontinue all medications except for thyroid medication. The most cherished outcome has been the strengthened connection between my wife and me. Although we’ve always loved each other, our bond has grown even stronger than when we first married 19 years ago.
